No One Sits Alone

To support continuous practice during this time of uncertainty, the residents of Great Vow Monastery have committed to livestreaming a week of our daily schedule with someone sitting in the zendo at all times between 6 am and 9:30 pm. This was the brilliant idea of our ever-creative, ever-generous cook, Kosho (in the photo).

You can click here to sit with us:

Tuesday: 9 am - 9:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday: 6 am - 9:30 pm *Chanting services will take place at 7:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 5:20 pm, with our closing chant at 8:50 pm.

Sunday: 6:30 am - 12:15 pm (chanting service at 10 am and a Dharma talk at 11:30.)

We will be individually dedicating the merit of our sitting to those we hold in our hearts, and we're inviting everyone at home to email a photo of yourself sitting with a sign that reads, "I sit with _________." This could be a nurse dear to you, someone who's ill, EMT workers in New York City, asylum seekers being held in detention centers, your county's health department, grocery store clerks, or anyone you sit with in your heart. You can send the photos to, and we'll use them to create a mural of merit on our website and social media. I've attached an example below.

We hope you'll join us this week and take refuge in the strength of community. We may be isolated right now, but we're never alone knowing that someone is sitting somewhere in the world. Please take good care!
